Red Robins October News
Look what we learned last month
First and foremost, welcome to the Red Robin Family! Fun, Fun, Fun is what happens when you’re in this class! And you know what they say, “Time flies when you’re having fun…” so before we say adios to September and Bonjour to October, lets quickly review some of the fun we had!
Early September we took some time each morning to get familiar with our classroom and also review the classes’ code of conduct (Class Rules). In doing so, this helps promote awareness to our surroundings, as well as helps foster self-discipline and boundaries.
We also learned about the RAD (Really Awesome Day) award system – How we can earn them (By making the RAD choice) as well as lose them (By Making the BAD Choice)! The children know the RAD award is designed, not only for their behavior at school, but their behavior at home as well! So, parents, PLEASE do not hesitate to be forthcoming about your child’s behavior at home. In doing so, this will teach your child about unity! (See attached poem) we have reviewed numbers, letters, colors, and shapes. We learned the 1st letter in each of our names, which prompted the lesson on the proper use of upper and lower case letters.
During apple week, many of our friends brought apples to school. We had a great time discussing the many different types there are, whether it be the name, color, taste, even where they originate from. Through this the children got a chance to work on their early math skills (counting and graphing) as well as a chance to explore three of their five senses. For example, Visual – the difference in color, Taste – sweet, bitter, and of course Texture. The 3rd sensory would be through Touch – as we did apple printing for an art project.
As the change of seasons is upon us, (Fall 9/23) we took the time to discuss the weather. The children found it fascinating that we were able to go outside and observe three of the ten cloud formations and what they have to do with weather change. (Please take the time to ask your child about their favorite cloud and what it can produce)
As September slowly comes to an end, I am happy to say that we have had a RAAD time learning with play, showing off our dance moves, and singing our hearts out. We have learned many things about each other, and are learning even more from one another! As parents, you will be please to know, the year is off to a great start!!
What we will learn this month
In the month of October, we will be having lots of fun with learning our manners and building up self-esteem. We will be talking about emotions and the many different feelings we experience. At this age it is very important for your child to understand what they are feeling, and also to know how to deal with the emotion in a proper way. For example, it is ok to be upset/angry, however that does not mean it is ok for you to put your hands on someone.
Spoo kee kee kee, kee kee kee…………………………………………………………………………..
Ghosts and goblins witches too, Halloween is fun Boo to you! Ok parents be prepared for spooky art projects to decorate your house with. The children will be channeling their inner Picasso! At the end of the month, we will dress up in our costumes and go trick-or-treating. If you can take the morning off from work and volunteer your time, we can use the help please. Look for sign-up sheets 2 weeks before. This month we will also be starting our Zoo Phonics. Your child will be learning the letter and sounds of A-E, as well as working on the letter formation. Homework will also start this month, so please don’t forget to visit the Adventures In Learning website to print out your child’s homework!

Please remember that the RAD Award Folders must stay at school.
Your child needs extra clothes and shoes in the cubby at all times in case of messy art or accidents.

Please provide an ice-pack and spoon in your child’s lunch box.
