Yellow Sunshines October News

Orange Preschool

Look what we learned last month!

In the month of September, the Sunshines learned the color red, yellow, and green.  They enjoyed and had fun playing a spy game in the classroom and ate things that are red, yellow, and green.  The children made lots of creative art with these colors to help them recognize the colors in a fun way.  For example, they painted and made a collage with red, yellow, and green items.  Making collages help children on their small motor skills and eye hand coordination.  We also learned our colors by sorting skittles.  Next they made a book of shapes.  This way they can flip through the book while at home to go over the different shapes.  The children also sponge painted circles, ovals, and triangles.  In addition to shapes and colors, we focused on letters and numbers.  For example, the children traced and collaged with letters A,B,C and numbers 1,2,3 the children would bring me 1,2, or 3 objects or toys at the table or in a group activity.  Next we moved onto body parts.  They learned their body parts with games and songs.  The Sunshines had fun laying on the ground for their bodies to be traced onto paper.  When we were done, they painted them and hung them around the classroom.  To wrap up the month, the parents brought in all kinds of apples.  The Sunshines learned what was the same and what was different.  After we talked about the apples, we enjoyed eating some and made apple juice to drink.  With the left over apples, the children artistically used the apples as stamps and formed apple prints as a fun activity.

What we will learn this month…

In the month of October, we will be learning about our five senses.  We will be conducting a fun experiment during my five senses week to help each child distinguish their different senses and what you do with each one.  For example, we will taste different foods, feel tough, rough, and soft objects, hear loud and quiet sounds, smell different foods and spices, and use our eyes to search for objects in the classroom and playground.  Next, the Sunshines will continue to work with our letters A-E by collaging and tracing the letters to help the children remember them.  Also, they will make lots of paintings with our colors black and white to help the children recognize those colors and we will be counting 1-5 with objects or toys.  Finally, we will end with some fall/Halloween activities.  For example, carving a pumpkin, spiders, skeletons, Jack-o-lanterns, cats, witches, etc. to decorate our classroom and homes.   We will be looking forward to our Halloween Party!!
