Blue Birds February News

Orange Preschool

Look what we learned last month!

In the month of January, we learned about winter fun, our community, weird science, and weather.  As a class, we talked about weather, holidays, and different activities for us to enjoy during the winter season.  While learning about our community, we discussed the different people and places around us.  Such as: doctors, hospitals, firefighters, fire stations, police officers, police stations, parks, schools, etc.  The Blue Birds are able to identify these people and places and how each of them impacts our community.  We also spent this month talking about stranger danger: who are strangers, where do we go, and whom do we go to when a stranger approaches us.  For weird science, we made ice sculptures and salt art.  It was so much fun!  Every morning during group time, the Blue Birds identified the type of weather for each day: hot, cold, rainy, windy, snowy, and sunny.  We had fun making rain clouds, rainbows, kites, snowflakes, and sun art while discussing the weather.  We also practiced tracing and writing our names, and continued our Zoo Phonics letters Nn-Rr.

What we will learn this month…

For the month of February, the Blue Birds will be learning about Love and Friendship, Post Office and Valentines, Famous People and birthdays, and Nursery Rhymes and Dr. Seuss.  We will be making lots of valentine art such as: decorating mailboxes, painting hearts, collage hearts, etc.  We will discuss as a class what the post office is and why we use it.  For this month, we will be having a Valentine's Day party and we will talk about why we celebrate it.  Also, we will see if the groundhog sees his shadow on Groundhog Day.  As a class, we will talk about our friend's birthdays, count and recognize numbers 1-30, rhyming words, and the importance of being kind and caring.  We will end the month with Nursery Rhymes and celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday by wearing our pajamas to school and reading Dr. Seuss books.  For Zoo Phonics, we will be focusing on letters Ss-Vv: Sammy Snake, Timothy Tiger, Umber Umbrella Bird, and Vincent Vampire Bat.
